THE 'A2' ELEMENT OF THE COURSE - LEADING TO THE AWARD OF
ADVANCED LEVEL QUALIFICATION
This part of the course is assessed in the same manner as the 'AS' part of the course and carries the remaining 50% of the total marks available.
Once again, the 'A2' is a modular course with a controlled test in the final unit (or module) number 7.
However, after unit 4 there is an additional option for the candidates to consider.
Units 5 & 6
provide an option for students to
either continue with their coursework method
or to produce an illustrated written study of an aspect of critical and historical studies in art, craft or design of their own choice. This will take the form of about 3000 words.
It is set and marked by the centre (or college) and moderated by the examining board.
UNIT 5
This is the theory choice.
Students can select an area of study and produce an Illustrated essay of around 3000 words.
UNIT 6
Here students can continue with their practical investigations.
This unit is structured in the same way as the previous units.
UNIT 7
The preparatory work is an important part of the marking scheme and attention must be given to the production of a good folio of work during this four week period of development.
