"Angel"
was influenced by the memories of my childhood in a little village (Caerlan) in the Swansea Valley.
Based upon the geometric patterns of Welsh blankets, the painting is a metaphor for the security and love of the family.
The blankets remind me of cold and long winter nights endured by 'cwtching' with my family beneath one of these traditional covers.

Geometry
has a special place in the art and culture of early people. An examination of early symbolic form from around the world show huge similarities in design and pattern.
Early art began with circles being drawn in the sand, followed by spiral variations. It was quite a large step towards angular shapes.
Geometry is part of everything around us. It is everything. Perhaps then it is no coincidence that the early Celts (and others including Islamic nations) based their early decorations upon these basic influences.
My work, featuring Celtic blanket designs and quilts, is an attempt to recreate a connection with these early artistic traditions. An attempt to reconnect with our ancestors.
