Artists Statement
"
Heads.
The features develop spontaneously. I remove clay from one place and it inevitably goes straight back on to an adjacent area - this happens again and again - an almost organic spontaneity takes over - I just seem to be arranging matter. similar of course to a potter throwing on a wheel. I often think of this. When a piece gets to a certain state of workability, still moist and plastic but firm and strong, that is the most important time for me - make or break - I have to work to the dictates of the material as a thrower would, the volumes within the form shift around and suddenly it seems to balance - time to stop!"
