His painting work is reflective of the Welsh urban and coastal environment.

His sculptural pieces encompass these elements and also the social and human factors he finds in the environment he works in. His work materialises in paintings and sculpture.A great deal of David's work tends to focus on specific eras - largely concerned with the local, so that first hand experiences can be introduced.

A proportion of his recent work is directed at the developments taking place at Swansea Docks, as a new era overwrites the old.

David's sculptural work encapsulates personalisations, gaining an uncanny relationship with people who donate for his art, conjuring up an abstract relationship with these individuals from all over the world, without meeting, forming a portrait without a face. The work also encapsulates subtle slices of history, the influence lingering in the background yet directly affecting the present.

David also deals with the geological and physical changes between times where the interest of the era exists in that particular moment of time.
