CRAIG J 'DAD' LEWIS

If I had the omnipotence to convert all the elegant mystery of our world into a single teleological unit of organised cells, give it the life span of a stone and imbue it with the power to tap in to Wales' incomparable social Zeitgeist, then I would be somewhere close to describing the nature of my art. Here then is the problem I have with attributing any single linguistic definition to such an indiscriminate body of work. I would much prefer to define my pieces in terms of measured sound, or as functions of a mal-formed interlude between light and shade. Like consciousness itself they could be considered as the fathomless enigma of a waking dream, or the equally incomprehensible nemesis of death, all of which germinate in some peculiar way from the root of this world, yet abscond to another place when pressed for some kind of meaning. At the base of it though, I feel that these images were born of an attitude that has still yet to find its place within high art. A place that will no doubt sit awkwardly within the polished cannon of art history, and rob all those lovely academic types of their much loved day trips to decadence, courtesy of poor old frustrated genius, John - unpronounceable middle name - Smith.
