The Llanfairpwll BIG DRAW
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DRAW?
Find out and enter 'The Llanfairpwll DIG DRAW'
An exciting new initiative has recently been launched to hold a national annual Drawing competition in Llanfairpwll. Organised with the assistance of a generous donation of the main prize by Sir Kyffin Williams.
The competition has been set up to promote drawing among all age groups from professional and amateur artists through to secondary and primary pupils.
Closing date: Adults - 10th June 2004; School students - 25th June 2004
Prize giving, drawing festival and exhibition - 9th - 11th July 2004
Sir Kyffin Williams has been critical of the standards of education within the art colleges over the last forty years or so.
"Conceptual art is worthless and people don't want it. What has been taught in art colleges has been disgraceful over the last 50 years. Galleries are desperate to find young artists who can draw."
This competition will
provide a much needed break from the pursuit of the 'Saatchiesque' so-called
cutting edge
. Drawing is the foundation upon whch artists should develop and explore possibilities. It is also a wonderfully expressive and much neglected outcome in its own right.
PRIZES:
Adults 1st £2,000; 2nd £500 (donated by Sir Kyffin Williams)
There are prizes for all age ranges and the addition of signed reproductions of Sir Kyffin's work.
