AERWEN GRIFFITHS

The latest show at the Oriel Emrys Gallery in Haverfordwest features
the colourful acrylic and collage work of Aerwen Griffiths.

Aerwen Griffiths is a native of Cardiganshire having been born in Pontrhydfendigaid. At the age of three she moved to live in Llanfair Clydogau where she attended the village primary school before moving on to Lampeter Secondary School. She furthered her studies at a Liverpool college where she specialised in art and music. On completion of her course she returned briefly to Dihewid before moving to Leamington Spa where she spent the next 33 years. During this time she married and raised two children, Aled and Sian.On return to full time teaching she specialised in art and design technology in a middle school.

In 1995, having retired, she returned with her husband to live in Llanfair where she now spends much of her time painting. Her childhood haunts and her love of the Welsh landscape and poetry are a continuing source of inspiration for her work. She strives to convey her feelings through the exploration of colour and texture in a variety of media. Her latest series of paintings have been inspired by Welsh quilts and the old
Welsh traditions to which they are linked.

She has exhibited at Theatre Mwldan, Cardigan, the Courtroom Gallery in Lampeter, Oriel 31, Newtown and Cambria Gallery,Tregaron. Her work was recently featured onS4C's afternoon programme Pnawn Da.
