PROFILE OF ARTIST SARA HOLDEN
Sara Holden studied Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art in London (1977-1980) where she obtained a B.A. (Hons) degree. She specialised in both painting and sculpture using light and water as her inspiration. Her one-woman show at Wimbledon extended from the workshop exhibition space and into the garden with hanging waves and kite-like installations.
She came to Mumbles in 1986 with her husband - watersports and location Photographer Phil Holden. Together they travel to beaches all over the world working as artists. Sara produces paintings and drawings for inspiration for her work and collects things that the sea washes up from faraway places to incorporate into her sculptures. Her work is about her life on different beaches and the influences of the sea..
Over the past three years she has also been working as Artist in Residence in various settings; including Swansea's Eco-fest - making totem poles with children, Penclawdd and St. Thomas Youth Groups - doing murals, mosiacs and other art, and for the past three months working with school children on the Green Art project.
Recent Exhibition locations include the Environment Centre, Swansea. and she will also be exhibiting some of this year's work at the Pontadawe Arts Centre for the whole month of August with the newly formed Swansea group of Artists - SA7. The theme of the Exhibition is "The Docks".
