PETER WALKER

Peter Walker

Peter Walker is one of this countries best up and coming young sculptors whose work has been described as absorbing and powerful and who has been tipped for “potential
international significance”.

Born is Staffordshire in 1973 where he taught himself to draw and sculpt, he moved to Falmouth / Penryn in Cornwall to develop his artistic skills and studio practice. He moved to Hay on Wye in Wales in 2004,
from where he is currently working on an exciting body of new work. Peter still has strong links to Cornwall, for where he is currently working on a number of important
projects for the county. These include
a statue of St. Piran, the Patron Saint of Cornwall, which is to be located in Perranporth and a monument to the Cornish Tin Miners which is to be located in St. Just.

2000 saw the unveiling of his first major sculptural work, a Monument to Sir Isaac Walton, author of
“The Complete Angler”, one of the most important writers in English Literature. 2005 saw the unveiling of a second major public work in Burton upon Trent. This sculpture, a twelve foot tall representation of the Goddess Isis, which has been described as “magnificent”, underlines
Peter Walker’s aim to create “individually significant statuary”.

Peter Walker works primarily in bronze, and almost exclusively from the figure. “The figure in a starting point from which one can manipulate forms and perspectives that we have experienced from childhood”. His work varies from both fully representational to powerful abstractions.

Alongside his sculptural work Peter Walker is also an accomplished draughtsman, producing series of work in pen and ink, oil and refined line work in pencil and charcoal.
Further to this he has been a published poet and had a long career in music.

Working alongside top international foundries, Peter produces unique bronze sculptures to the highest standard.

“Sculpture is by its very nature an intense personal testimony. Powerful emotive qualities are translated into form”.
