1911 Born Warsaw, 3rd January

1930
Educated at Warsaw School of Art and Decoration. Left to work as graphic artist

1938
Left Poland for Belgium

1940
After German invasion of Belgium left for France, then to Glasgow settling for 3 years - Married Catriona Macleod, divorced 1955

1943
Moved to London. Shared rooms with L.S.Lowry
Visited the Welsh mining village of Ystradgynlais
Set up studio in the Pen Y Bont Inn. Remained in the village for 11 years.

1948
Became naturalised British subject

1961
Moved to Little Cornard, Suffolk
Married Dr. Nini Ettlinger

1962
Awarded gold medal for services to Welsh Art by the Royal National Eisteddfod, Llanelli.

1981
Awarded OBE for Services to British Art

1990
Elected Royal Academician

2000
Died London, UK
